An evening with Film Maker Emma Critchley

b-side festival is returning this year and in the leading up to the festival b-side will be hosting talks by the artists taking part. Kicking off this programme is underwater film maker and artist Emma Critchley.
Emma Critchley is one of b-side’s 2016 commissioned artists and was selected out of over 200 artists from all over the world. Next week she will be talking about her current projects and the developments of her work whilst working towards the b-side festival this September.
Emma’s deep sea work has produced captivating and mesmerising artwork that is suspended in time. Her underwater work has enabled her to explore waters across the globe, with recent artist residencies in New York, Barbados and Singapore. Emma Critchley’s current film installation will tour to Leeds Central Library, the Southbank Centre and the BALTIC centre for contemporary art this summer.
Emma’s work explores the link between the human body and the ocean and has worked underwater for over a decade using photography, film, sound and installation to continually explore the human relationship with the underwater environment.
As a qualified HSE commercial diver Emma will be diving and filming the Rowella wreck of Portland for b-side festival. She is absorbed by the way sound is perceived beneath the waters surface and will be exploring the sound of Portland’s waters and how it affects our relationship to the surrounding environment for the upcoming festival.
‘An evening with Film Maker Emma Critchley’ is a FREE event and will be the first of many other Artists Talks that will follow in the lead up and during the b-side festival 2016.
This FREE event will be held at Outpost, 77 Fortuneswell, Portland, DT5 2HS on 31st May at 7:30pm. There is a limited capacity of around 25 people, so make sure to book via email (molly@b-side.org.uk) or by popping into Outpost.
