Apply to be a b-side bursary artist

Overview / The Brief 

b-side is offering 3 – 5 bursary opportunities for young artists to make a brand new piece of art for the b-side festival. b-side are inviting young people aged 16 – 25 to create new artwork that responds to Portland in Dorset. The work, for example, can respond to a geographical location or a particular theme of interest like: the island’s environment, a community on the island, the history or sociology etc.

Applications are invited from artists working in any media including: visual art, digital, sound, film, text based work, performance art and social media.

To apply for this bursary applicants will need a partner organisation that is willing to financially support and mentor the applicant in partnership with b-side. (If you are without a partnership organisation and would still like to apply please contact us, we may be able to find an organisation to accommodate you!) 

The location of the finished piece will be decided in collaboration with the mentor and the b-side team. Work can be for indoor or outdoor locations, made for intimate spaces as well as larger public places or incorporate a route, journey or event. 

The b-side bursary artist

  • Will receive mentoring support from b-side team member and mentoring support from the partner organisation
  • Will receive a bursary of £500 to complete the proposed project
  • Will receive support from their nominating organisation to develop ideas and proposed project from March 2018 – December 2018
  • Will have the opportunity to platform any work created at the international arts festival ‘b-side festival’
  • Will be featured in the printed programme and listed on the website
  • Will receive installation assistance & venue facilitation from the team
  • Will have the opportunity to meet & talk to the selected artists #bside18
