In 2018 we worked with a group of young people who were particularly interested in social activism, young people's rights and developing their skills in producing.
The group took part in a programme of training led by cultural creatives currently working in the sector. Alongside developing their own professional skills, the group consulted with other young people from Portland to develop a strand of b-side festival 2018 specifically aimed at young people. The WHY? Festival stands for What’s Happening for the Young? and was launched in 2014 by the Southbank Centre. The festival itself is always produced by young people’s thoughts and voices as well as always being based around the UN Conventions for the rights of the child.
The festival took place in and around Easton Square, Portland and included: theatre workshops, performances, local music, discussions around mental health and fake news, spoken word workshops and even alternative village fête games!
WHY? festival partners: Southbank Centre, The Bay Theatre, Weymouth
